About the employee recruitment process

Northern Victoria Institute of TAFE (NVITAFE) employs people in a various roles across many industries. Given this, the application process can differ slightly, depending on the role. The following information will assist in preparing your application and will provide you with an overview of the recruitment process.

From the closing date of applications, to potential job offer, please allow up to two weeks. Some positions will require a medical or functional assessment which will add additional processing time.

A guide to the staff recruitment process at NVITAFE

Step 1 – Before you apply +

Review the position description carefully to understand the role and assess your suitability. Each advertisement will include contact details if you would like to discuss the opportunity further.

Make sure you understand the application requirements. Most roles will require:

  • A current resume
  • A cover letter
  • Responses to any screening questions or key selection criteria (if applicable)
  • Qualification details (if applicable)

Take time to prepare your application, ensuring you can clearly demonstrate your relevant experience and capabilities.

Be sure to note the application closing date.

Step 2 – Submit your application +

Complete your application online by:

  • Uploading all required documents
  • Answering any screening questions

Only complete applications submitted by the closing date will be considered.

Step 3 – Application assessment and shortlisting +

Applications are reviewed against the requirements of the role, including your resume, cover letter, and any additional responses provided.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the People & Capability team to progress to the next stage. If you are unsuccessful at this stage, you will be notified.

Step 4 – Interview +

If shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an interview, either in person or via Microsoft Teams.

  • Interviews are typically scheduled within a short period after applications close.
  • You will be advised of the format, timing, and any preparation required.
  • You'll have the opportunity to ask questions about the role and organisation.

In some cases:

  • A second interview may be conducted.
  • Additional assessments may be required (e.g. work samples, presentations, or testing).
Step 5 – Checks and verification +

As part of the recruitment process, you may be required to provide or complete relevant checks, which may include:

  • Referee checks (usually two referees you have directly reported to)
  • Qualification verification (certified copies of relevant qualifications)
  • National Police Check
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Citizenship or right to work evidence
  • Other role-specific checks or medical assessments (if required)
Step 6 – Outcome and offer +

You will be contacted to advise the outcome of your application.

If successful:

  • A formal offer of employment will be made.
  • Upon acceptance, you will receive an employment contract to review and sign.

If unsuccessful:

  • You will be notified via email or phone.
Step 7 – Onboarding and welcome +

Once you accept an offer:

  • The People & Capability team will support your onboarding process
  • Your manager will guide you through your first day and induction
